Last week I moved into my new apartment in Bushwick! Anyone who lives or has lived in a small apartment is all too familiar with sacrificing convenience to save space, and to avoid feeling like you’re constanly climbing over things that belong in a house full of rooms. For me, it is my instrument. I had cords crossing the room which i dutifully coiled up after most sessions, pedals that lived under my bed, an amplifier i had to move to open a closet door… Yeah yeah, just play the acoustic—but that’s not going to work for me.
^THIS might be the most exciting thing about moving from that situation into my new place. The permanent set up, located along one recessed wall of the finished basement my new roommate and I turned into a music/recording studio. And the best part? My share of the new rent is less than i was paying before.
Sometimes things just work out. For those of you that know me, you probably saw me stressed out for the first time ever during this move. Long story short, my leases did not overlap and sandwiched in the middle was a homeless weekend out of town with everything i own scattered around brooklyn. My friends all really came through for me on this one: thanks Dave, for helping with the grunt work, Amanda for use of your apartment, Adam for helping me move and store furniture, Sarah for packing the van and staying up late, Fraser for helping move everything, and Jordan for the Van, storage, some heavy lifting, and being one of the most accomodating people i’ve ever met (he’s the one on the left).
Give me a shout if you’re in the neighborhood!
