In and Out Burger VS. Shake Shack

I wasn’t going to elaborate on my In and Out Burger experience while visiting LA a couple weekends ago, but after eating Shake Shack for lunch today, I feel like I have to.

Im not in this to make friends or enemies so sorry if you this falls on sensitive ears, but after tasting both burgers I can not understand why In and Out Burger is even considered a rival of Shake Shack in burger craft. The East coast West Coast pride thing i get, but honestly, in my opinion, In and Out burger more closely compares to some regional fast food chain than the NYC Institution Shake Shack.

I ate a double double, what I saw as the closest counterpart to my regular Shake Shack double shackburger, and to me it was simply two thin not-so-special burger patties on an over toasted bun with fries that were, straight up, not very good. It was certainly nice to walk straight up to the counter and have my burger within five minutes, but if that’s the shtick I can just as easily walk down to the 14th street wendy’s and have a (more?) satisfying experience.

I AM anxious to give it another try, because i know plenty of people who’s opinion i value are In and Out burger lifers, and to sample a variation of the ‘not-so-secret menu,’ but for now, and for the foreseeable future, I am all Shake Shack.
