A Good Saturday

Tonight was one of those nights when you get home and you just feel good. It was a nice afternoon that was shattered by a downpour of healthy rain - a reason for strangers to bond, smile, and chatter in the temporary shelters they congregate in. Then later on this evening, aside from seeing WALL-E (During which you cannot help but smile and feel good, continuously, for the entire duration, while somehow simultaneously finding yourself rendered incapable of lifting your jaw off of the floor), I witnessed on the train on the way back a family with two boys, maybe 7 and 14, who had just taken a family shopping trip. The boys had fallen asleep somewhere between Manhattan and Brooklyn, the youngest’s head on his older brothers shoulder, big bro’s head on top of his little brother’s. Their mother, touched, did not hesitate to whip out her camera and take a quick snapshot of this little nothing moment, and the flash woke the oldest up. Opening his eyes, i expected him to try and play it cool, to throw up a big boy defense, but he just looked at his mom showing the picture to his father and watched the big smiles appear on their faces. He looked then looked down at his little brother, and did nothing but lean his head back and close his eyes again, and smile.
